Automated Visual Inspection Systems Providing Quality Assurance

The Department of Visual Inspection Systems designs and produces automated visual inspection systems that can accomplish jobs including sorting bulk commodities, examining food, and assuring the quality of transparent and reflective materials.

Our study focuses on characterizing and inspecting various materials and objects utilizing optronic sensors and machine vision. We use laser scanners, hyperspectral technology, area scan cameras, high-resolution line scan cameras of all kinds (color, grayscale, UV, and imaging NIR), as well as affordable NIR point spectroscopy sensors. Every single task’s imaging setup is unique and strongly depends on folding beam pathways and LED flash illumination. The high throughput rates of the inspections and the requirement to create databases of reference data necessitate the use of high-performance system architectures with specifically created frame grabbers and picture exploitation algorithms, which is another area of our competence. Many factories are currently using our solutions to carry out functions like quality control.

We create automated methods for sorting bulk products. They are employed in the food business (for the purification of coffee, tea, grains, grapes, and other goods), mining (for minerals), and recycling (for the purification of glass, plastic, construction, and demolition waste). Our other systems can measure the color of granulates, analyze pill blister packs, inspect surfaces for flaws, and identify transparent materials of all shapes. We are currently developing a portable food scanner that employs NIR spectroscopy to evaluate the content, quality, and freshness of meals.
