SURFACE SWEEP SCAN is a 5-axis CMM tactile scanning technique. It captures data points over a plane by utilizing a 5-axis drive system to sweep back and forth while the CMM drive system move is a singular vector direction under a constant speed. This minimizes the inherent inaccuracies of the CMM structure while scanning at high speeds.
As the probe scans in a sweeping motion, the higher speed movement comes primarily from the two rotational actions of the probe head. The linear path taken by the probe assembly as it moves along the length of the feature, is a single direction and speed, thereby allowing greater measuring accuracy at a higher rate of speed.
