German Surveyors Unlock New Possibilities with SHINING 3D Metrology

SEAD Mission 360°: Pioneers in Surveying Technologies

Since 1932, the German surveying business SEAD has led the way in the industry. It uses the most up-to-date surveying techniques and tools to provide its clients with cutting-edge technology.

For instance, the business introduced FARO’s terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) to Western Germany first in 2012. The crew quickly implemented airborne drone surveying technology a few years later. Recent investments made by SEAD include cutting-edge mobile mapping products from NavVis.

In 2022, the company ceded ground to SEAD Mission 360° in order to further concentrate on the most recent 3D digitizing technologies. This “special task force” focuses on airborne drone surveys, mobile mapping, scan-to-BIM, and 3D laser scanning. They primarily work in the real estate industry.

From Real Estate to More Diverse Applications

The SEAD Mission 360° team began planning forward after polishing its portfolio of high-tech real estate solutions and facing rising demand for more varied 3D scanning projects.

What if you made the offer in addition to the normal real estate applications and included everything you could find?

The next step, according to Sven, “was to combine two worlds, from the small-scale measurement of single objects to the measurement of large-scale objects, like the ones you see in industrial facilities or factories.”

Because of this, Lutz Volc’s 3D Scan Academy was consulted by SEAD Mission 360. The 3D Scan Academy provides specialized training as well as 3D scanner rental choices. As a result, they have vast expertise working with many brands and types of 3D scanners.

Sven consulted Lutz about how to develop exact, miniature digital twins and how they could integrate this with the business and industrial worlds in an effort to make the most of this experience.

3D Scan Academy Recommends SHINING 3D Solutions

Lutz quickly offered industrial metrology solutions from SHINING 3D early on. He selected these SHINING 3D goods because “they are easy to learn, comply with modern requirements, [offer] a competitive price-to-performance ratio, and are very flexible in terms of applications.”

Sven and the SEAD team were shown the FreeScan lineup by 3D Scan Academy. The crew was persuaded by the goods’ feel, quality, and performance during the demos. Waiting for the then-upcoming FreeScan UE Pro release was advised by 3D Scan Academy.

Given that it was “capable, with its high resolution, of scanning very small and delicate parts while it is also able to digitize large objects, like entire vehicles,” as stated by Lutz, the FreeScan UE Pro did indeed seem to be the perfect choice for them. “It has a great potential to flexibly do large and complex scan jobs cleanly and quickly through the use of photogrammetry,” he stated.

SEAD was specifically looking for a versatile instrument with cutting-edge technology to round out its offering of superior 3D scanning services. FreeScan UE Pro, according to Lutz, “can be used in several situations without the need to carry multiple scanners and thus always [provides] the perfect setup.”

3D Scan Academy also suggested the SHINING 3D Transcan C to round out the set. The Transcan C’s 12MP cameras enable it to record both the geometry and colors of things in addition to their textures. SEAD is now able to produce excellent, photorealistic digital twins.

The FreeScan UE Pro and Transcan C were the perfect scanners for SEAD, in Lutz’s opinion. For engineering or inspection applications, one offers metrology-grade 3D models, while for virtual display cases, the other offers colored 3D models.

SEAD Reinforces Its 360° Promise

To support the business’s “360°” offering and advance its goal of “satisfying customers all around with everything they would need,” Sven and his team made the decision to purchase both devices.

SEAD Mission 360° has the appropriate toolkit to address its clients’ growing demand for digital twins, for anything from large items down to small, intricate pieces, by combining the FreeScan UE Pro with the Transcan C.

They are pleased to discover in Lutz Volckart and the 3D Scan Academy people with years of experience and excellent levels of skill in this field who [suggested] what we required for the applications we received from clients. The 3D scanners from SHINING 3D allow us to use the most recent state-of-the-art technology, and we are happy to have him on board as a consultation partner,” Sven said.
