Please tell us how you started Accu Measuring Solutions?
After completing my Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from D.Y. Patil, Pimpri, in 2007, I started working for a company as a VMC programmer, where I got the opportunity to get trained on FARO portable CMM. I moved to another company in 2009 to work for their quality department where I met my partner Mr Kiran Gaware. This proved to be a turning point for us where we decided to join hands and start our venture. We both believed that the Metrology industry has the potential to grow rapidly and we decided to start Accu Measuring Solutions. We started our business in 2010 with a single portable Faro CMM.
Tell us about your journey in the metrology industry?
We provide 3D scanning, metrology inspection, reverse engineering, and ultra to large volume small components inspection services. Initially, we provided services to 3 tier suppliers who provided parts and components to companies like Tata Motors. This helped us to establish our name in the market. We kept adding two new machines every year as we got more customers. Today, we have a team of 20 people and have 10 portable arms of FARO, 4 trackers, and a few scanners. We now provide our services all over India to automotive companies and their vendors who primarily manufacture fixtures and dies. Apart from automotive companies, we also work for companies in heavy engineering, Defence, Aerospace, locomotive, shipbuilding, and many others.
What is your major achievement in the past decade?
We started with just one machine and rolled over all our income back into the business. Our focus was always on purchasing advanced technology. Today, we have both the oldest portable arm and even the latest portable arm. We can provide our customers with all the metrology solutions under one roof right from CMM to printer.
Who are your major customers?
Our major customers are L&T, Tata Motors, Fiat, Honda Cars, Mahindra & Mahindra, Volkswagen, and many more.
What are your plans?
We are planning to purchase our own space and move our factory to this location. Our company will be registered as a Private Limited company very soon. We had also planned to buy new equipment but decided to postpone it to the next financial year due to Covid-19. It will depend on how quickly the market will pick up after the pandemic.
What is your Annual Turnover and do you see your growth getting affected due to the pandemic?
Our annual turnover is Rupees 4-5 crores. It did affect our growth as we feel that there will be a nearly 50% reduction in our turnover.
How has COVID -19 affected your business?
Yes, it did affect our business. We expect that our turnover will go down by nearly 50% during this financial year. Despite this, we have retained all our staff and will continue paying their salaries regularly. We believe that our employees are our family and we believe in taking care of each other. Taking care of employees is an investment that every business needs to do. I feel that you can never replace skilled manpower with even the most superior technology.
What do you think about the future of the Metrology Industry in India?
The pandemic affected all industries. The future of the Metrology industry after Covid-19 will depend on how quickly the OEMs bounce back. I am hopeful that even though we won’t see major growth in the coming few months, the industry will recover. We were getting regular payments from a few companies even during the pandemic and their support helped us to sail through. This month our business has picked up and we expect that the work will increase.
What are your thoughts on government policies, in particular during the pandemic?
The government provided the policy of moratorium, which helped us immensely. As industries were shut down and no one was manufacturing, we couldn’t repay our loans. This moratorium reduced our burden and we were able to pay our staff regularly as there was no pressure of repaying the loans. The government provided companies with loans that supported us well during that time.
With the ban on imports of toys from China, we saw a sudden increase in reverse engineering projects. India manufactured only 5-10% in the toy industry and the rest was all imported from China. This ban has forced people to get the work done in India. I believe that this will only have a good outcome as Indian toy manufacturers will grow.
