The Next Big Thing in 3D Scanning

The Next Big Thing in 3D Scanning

Fast and simple large-surface inspection

The Absolute Scanner AS1-XL is a 3D laser scanner designed to meet the needs of emerging 3D scanning applications for which higher productivity is the priority. Working in conjunction with the Leica Absolute Tracker AT960 range of high-end laser tracker systems, the AS1-XL opens the door to previously infeasible large-scale 3D digitization tasks.

Automated large-surface inspection

The Absolute Scanner AS1-XL is the first 3D laser scanner designed for large-surface inspection that supports automated and autonomous measurement systems. With the freedom provided by the WRTL wireless link accessory for the Leica Absolute Tracker AT960, the AS1-XL opens up the potential to autonomously capture data from extremely large parts in areas such as aerospace and energy.

Extra-wide scanline

The AS1-XL boasts an extra-wide scan line of 600 millimeters at a standoff distance. This allows it to make light work of large surfaces, with far fewer scan passes required across the part.

Under handheld operation, that increases operator speed and reduces fatigue. For automated tasks, that means less complex robot path planning together with faster measurement process time.

Large standoff

The AS1-XL boasts an unsurpassed measurement standoff distance of 700 millimeters, with a working range of plus or minus 300 millimeters on either side. That means reliable inspection is possible at up to a full meter from the 3D scanner.

A key benefit of that huge standoff is inspection within deep cavities and other hidden areas where line-of-sight to the laser tracker is not possible. And when it comes to automated inspection systems, the large standoff of the AS1-XL makes it simple to program robot pathways that all but guarantee the avoidance of collision events.

SHINE technology

The AS1-XL is the latest Hexagon 3D laser scanner to be built on a platform of SHINE technology – proprietary algorithms that deliver incredibly clean, accurate, and high-quality data using the scanner’s default settings selections.

SHINE – Systematic High-Intelligence Noise Elimination – is the key to the high performance delivered by the latest generation of Hexagon 3D scanners, which also include the Absolute Scanner AS1 and the HP-L-10.10.

Even on challenging surface types and finishes, SHINE delivers unmatched data quality, and now, with the AS1-XL, that performance is available in a device dedicated to large-surface area inspection.

Modular installation

Like the Absolute Scanner AS1, the AS1-XL has a modular cross-platform design that makes it compatible for use with both our Leica Absolute Tracker AT960 laser tracker systems and our Absolute Arm 7-Axis portable measuring arms.

And that interoperability is near instantaneous – an AS1 or AS1-XL scanner unit can be dismounted and moved between referencing systems with just the flick of a switch, with no alignment required upon remounting.

This also makes it easy for users to switch between the AS1 and AS1-XL as required, covering both high-definition feature measurement and high-speed surface inspection at peak efficiency within the same measurement session.

Features and Benefits

Extra-wide scan line

Never-before-seen measurement scan-line width of up to 600 millimeters makes the full digitization of large surfaces faster and easier than ever before.

Large standoff

Unprecedented measurement stand-off of up to 1000 millimeters delivers excellent access to hard-to-reach hidden measurement areas, opening up a new world of laser scanner applications that were previously out of reach.

Low noise, big data

Up to 1.2 million points per second of high-quality measurement data, even when scanning shiny materials that often require spray with other scanners.

High-speed measurement

Digitize large surfaces quickly with data collected at 300 lines per second, with no need to reduce laser line width or point spacing.

Metrology-grade accuracy

With accuracy retained to within 150 microns, the AS1-XL is the perfect tool for digitizing the larger, less complex surfaces that would typically demand infeasible measurement process times for a laser scanner.

SHINE performance

The advanced algorithms of our SHINE technology allow you to digitize almost any surface type with the default exposure settings, from glossy black plastic automotive body parts to molded carbon-fiber components, making high-quality measurement easier than ever with no high-level training required and operator variability eliminated.

Ease-of-use

Switching between measurement profiles and executing of macros and other software functions is fast and easy direct from the scanner with the AP21’s programmable Quick Access buttons and the Absolute Arm’s OLED touchscreen wrist display.

Light movement

Weighing in at just 460 grams, the AS1-XL is light and easy to move, minimizing the user fatigue that is one of the most common causes of inaccurate and unreliable measurement results.

Completely portable

The lightweight design of the scanner carries through to the laser tracker controller, which can be mounted directly on the tracker stand.

Visual guidance

A laser-projected range finder helps users measure more accurately and efficiently by helping ensure the scanner is positioned correctly relative to the part being measured.

Automation ready

A direct digital input/output function built into the scanner controller allows robot movement and scanning tasks to be managed without a dedicated automation interface for laser tracker automation setups.

Modular marvel

The modular concept of the AS1 allows for quick and easy serviceability, as well as device sharing between measurement teams and locations.

Cross-platform compatibility

Fit the AS1-XL to a handheld Absolute Positioner AP21 unit to measure over large volumes with an Absolute Tracker, or switch to an Absolute Arm 7-Axis for smaller-scale measurement, with no realignment required when switching.

ISO Certification

The full scanning system accuracy of the AS1-XL and Absolute Arm 7-Axis system is supplied certified according to ISO 10360-8 Annex D, while an AS1-XL with AP21 unit is specified in line with ISO 10360-10.
