One of the devices you will frequently come across in a manufacturing facility is a Mitutoyo indicator, and in many cases, these are digital. However, there has been a recent update from the Japanese measuring device producer, and it is quite substantial.
Neuss, May 2022. Developed with the user in mind, Mitutoyo has managed to improve on previous designs. The models that were created in this new design are the ID-C and ID-F, each for different use cases. Even though both have their time and place, they also both receive the new features and functions that make them stand out in the current market.
The most noticeable out of these newly added improvements is the facelift that is clearly apparent on both devices. With a large semi-circle display and three customizable multi-function buttons, the user-friendliness of both indicators has vastly improved over the previous generation. However, in terms of what the biggest change to these devices is, would be the bi-directional serial communication.
Labeled as none other than “Digimatic S1,” this new form of data communication makes it so that users can perform two different actions with the ID-C or ID-F when paired with USB IT-PAK v 3.0 or other similar software due to its open communication protocol.
Information Reading – Allowing for data (serial number, calibration status, etc.) about the device to be read via PC.
Settings and Operations – Lets users control functions (preset, power ON/OFF, etc.) of the device remotely from a PC.
It should also be mentioned that these S1 cables still work with previous versions of USB IT-Pak, however the new functions above are not possible.
These indicators demonstrate what the future of quality control products looks like and how Mitutoyo is leading the transition to smart factories. Mitutoyo aims to have these new measuring devices and what is believed to be the future of data communication on the European Market in Q3 of 2022.
