Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division has announced the release of a new modular 3D laser scanner designed for large surface inspection for use with both its laser tracker and portable measuring arm devices. The Absolute Scanner AS1-XL brings flagship-quality scan definition for extra-large surface measurement. With the same SHINE technology as its flagship Absolute Scanner AS1, the new Absolute Scanner AS1-XL can collect extremely clean 3D data at very high speeds from even the most difficult surface types. The new scanner, which has a wider scan line, is made to inspect large surfaces and deep cavities in aerospace panels, marine propellers, and large automotive castings.
The AS1-XL has a 600-millimeter mid-range ultra-wide scan line. It is ideal for quickly scanning large surfaces without losing inspection detail due to its 300 Hertz frame rate and point acquisition rate of 1.2 million points per second. In addition, the scanner has a 700-millimeter measurement stand-off distance, which, when combined with its 600-millimeter working range, makes it possible to measure hidden points up to a meter.
“Since even before the send-off of the AS1 we’ve needed to convey that equivalent degree of information assortment quality and mechanization preparation in a gadget zeroed in on huge surface examination,” says Daniel Moser, Laser Tracker Item Chief at Hexagon. ” The demand and applications for a dedicated large-scale scanning device have been demonstrated by our previous generation of scanners. Thanks to our new scanning technology, which is ten times faster than our previous generation, the LAS-XL, we have been able to deliver on the promise of that large surface measurement concept in a way that is far more satisfying with the AS1-XL.”
The restrictive wise openness calculations that makeup Hexagon’s Sparkle innovation are critical to the exhibition of the AS1-XL, permitting it to digitize practically any material, including numerous surface kinds and variety wraps up, inside a solitary output pass with no requirement for settings change. This and the scanner’s automation compatibility distinguish it from the handheld-only LAS-XL of the previous generation. The high estimation speed and enormous deadlock distance of the AS1-XL make it ideal for an extensive variety of automatable review undertakings – the previous permitting the scanner to stay aware of present-day robot innovation instead of being a bottleneck to robot way speed, and the last option limiting gamble of a crash by not needing the robot way to pass so near the examination object.
The modular design of the Absolute Scanner AS1-XL, like that of the Absolute Scanner AS1, makes it compatible with both the flagship laser tracker and portable measuring arm systems from Hexagon, the Leica Absolute Tracker AT960, and Absolute Arm 7-Axis, respectively. The speedy mount plan and insignificant warm-up period make the AS1 and AS1-XL a hot-swappable blend, permitting clients to move rapidly this way and that between high-thickness point-by-point filtering and bigger surface review utilizing either a versatile arm or laser tracker immediately.
Anthony Vianna, Portable Measuring Arm Product Director at Hexagon, states, “The Absolute Scanner AS1 has really been embraced by the market since its launch in 2021, and it’s great to be completing the 3D scanning toolkit of our portable measuring arm line-up with an equally impressive device in the AS1-XL.” Even with our smaller diameter models, the hidden area coverage provided by that extended stand-off distance opens up a lot of applications that have previously been difficult to cover, such as automotive, rail, and aerospace interiors. Our Absolute Arm range offers a market-leading measurement volume of up to 4.5 meters in diameter, making it an ideal platform for a large-scale device like the AS1-XL.
The AS1-XL is IP54-rated, just like the AS1 and the most recent Absolute Arm model. This makes it safe and reliable to use in the difficult shop floor environment where more and more quality inspections are taking place in.
The AS1-XL can be ordered right now from representatives at your local Hexagon, and more information can be found on the Absolute Scanner section of the Hexagon website.
