The photonics company Jenoptik celebrated the official completion of its new Berlin site on “Gross-Berliner Damm” with guests and employees of the Berlin sites in Germany. More than 100 employees will develop and manufacture optical systems and components, particularly for dentistry (intraoral scanners) and robot-assisted surgery, in brand-new production facilities and cutting-edge environments.
Jenoptik has invested approximately 20 million euros in the new location of “Gross-Berliner Damm” in the Treptow-Koepenick neighborhood of Berlin over the past six months. Cutting-edge space will be accessible, including more than 1,000 sqm of clean room creation space and around 600 sqm of coordinated operations space as well as office and diversion rooms. Extra space of approx. 600 sqm will be held available for later future development.
“We are pleased to now have another Berlin location with cutting-edge equipment and significant growth potential within the Jenoptik Group. One of the three photonics core markets on which we are focusing our future growth is the life science and medical technology market, along with semiconductor and electronics and smart mobility. Over the past few months, our Berlin colleagues have continued to drive the business and expand it, demonstrating a great deal of patience and adaptability. Dr. Stefan Traeger, President and CEO of JENOPTIK AG, stated, “For this, I would like to thank them and the entire team, which completed the project in such a short amount of time and under conditions that were not easy.”
Berlin is an important location for Jenoptik’s medical technology business
Jenoptik’s acquisition of BG Medical, which significantly strengthened the company’s medical technology division, was completed in November 2021. Since the beginning of 2022, the Berlin-based company has been operating under the Jenoptik brand and has been incorporated into Jenoptik’s Advanced Photonic Solutions division. It is a significant component of the Jenoptik Group’s medical technology business because of its extensive expertise and product portfolio, which includes visualization technologies for minimally invasive, robot-assisted surgery as well as dental, laser, and 3D imaging systems.
Jenoptik is a dependable and adaptable partner for the creation of life science and medical technology applications, among other fields. It focuses on photonic technologies and systems. Light sources and imaging systems for analytical life science (DNA sequencing, cell imaging, tissue, and blood analysis) and medical technology (diagnostic) applications are the primary focus here. Disk lasers for ophthalmology, diode lasers for aesthetic applications, systems for dentistry, and minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery are all examples of laser-based therapeutic solutions developed in the medical technology field.
Jenoptik has around 200 employees in Berlin
The Jenoptik fab in Berlin’s Adlershof Science and Technology Park, close to the newly completed new site, produces semiconductor laser diodes, which are the core component of diode lasers used in medical applications, materials processing, and metrology. In 2020, the Jenoptik Group expanded its presence in Berlin by acquiring optical metrology specialist TRIOPTICS, which has its headquarters in Wedel, near Hamburg. Jenoptik employs 200 people across its three locations in Berlin, Germany.
Growth: Revenue from life science & medical technology to be around 25 percent of group revenue in 2025
One of the three photonics core markets that Jenoptik is focusing on with its Agenda 2025 “More Value” is the life science and medical technology market, along with semiconductor and electronics and smart mobility. The market for life science and medical technology is then anticipated to contribute approximately 25% of revenue. approximately 14%).
