Matterport Revolutionizes Facility Monitoring with AWS IoT and Digital Twins

Matterport and AWS boost efficiency, safety, and innovation with a unified 3D view of business operations

SUNNYVALE, CA — The general release of new integrations with AWS IoT TwinMaker was announced by Matterport, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTTR), allowing enterprise clients to easily incorporate Internet of Things (IoT) data into dimensionally precise and visually accurate Matterport digital twins. AWS IoT TwinMaker is a service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) that facilitates the creation of digital twins of real-world systems like structures, factories, industrial machinery, and production lines by developers. In order to remotely optimize building operations, increase output, enhance equipment performance, and improve environmental health and safety at customers’ facilities, this new offering from Matterport supports enterprise digital transformation initiatives.

Yasser Alsaied, Vice President of IoT, AWS, said, “Working with Matterport, we’re now able to give customers seamless integration of their live IoT data into precise, spatially-accurate digital twins. Enterprise customers, particularly those in the industrial, energy, and smart building sectors, have a fantastic chance to adopt digital twins in order to get more insight into their operations and boost organizational efficiency.

The significant partnership between Matterport and AWS is reflected in the Matterport and AWS IoT TwinMaker interface, which enables AWS clients to integrate real-time operational data into Matterport’s 3D digital twins to streamline the management of large data sets. One of the biggest integrated producers of polymers and fibers in the world, INVISTA, a global polymer and chemical manufacturer, is already utilizing the integration to enable remote monitoring and collaboration, predictive maintenance, and virtual training in order to lower costs and significantly improve operational efficiencies.

According to Jerry Grunewald, vice president of operations transformation at INVISTA, “With a digital twin of our manufacturing operations, our connected field personnel can proactively enable consistently high performance of our plant assets.” In order to have a unified view of real-time sensor data, records of equipment maintenance, and engineering design information, as well as a 3D visualization of our facilities, we use AWS IoT TwinMaker and Matterport digital twins. This enables us to rapidly and effectively make decisions.

In order to better support clients at any point of their digital transformation journey, this integration delivers new features to further enable digital twin technology in the company. The digital twins created by Matterport incorporate real-time operational data to offer a single, cohesive visual representation of any physical location together with pertinent, related data.

Customers using Matterport with AWS IoT TwinMaker can experience several benefits to reduce costs and improve operational efficiencies, including:

  • Simplifying the process to create digital representations of physical environments.
  • Increasing productivity by enabling the consistently high performance of facility assets and streamlining the management of complex data sets.
  • Improving field operations in manufacturing plants with real-time IoT sensor and process data.
  • Increasing equipment uptime in remote facilities by analyzing trends and predicting issues or maintenance needs.
  • Providing remote training and expert instruction to frontline workers.
  • Reducing site visits and carbon footprint to realize lower operational costs, sustainability goals, and reduce risk of injury.

“Enterprise businesses are embracing the significant opportunity for digital twins to transform how they manage manufacturing and operational facilities on a global scale,” said RJ Pittman, Chairman and CEO of Matterport. “Matterport and AWS have created a new paradigm for managing and training a frontline workforce for environments with heavy machinery, creating a safer experience for employees that benefits the bottom line.”
