Metrologic Group: 42 years of growth on Inovallée and a springboard trajectory in the 3D inspection market for Industry 4.0.

The beautiful story of a child from Inovallée who doubled his surfaces and his workforce in his new building in Montbonnot.

After its creation in 1980, Metrologic Group very quickly settled in Inovallée, to develop and evolve there over the years.

Three years after the acquisition by the Sandvik Group, in 2018, Metrologic Group moved into its new building, in the heart of Inovallée in Montbonnot, clearly displaying its ambition for growth: “twice as big, twice as numerous ! “.

”  It was a real choice for Metrologic to stay in Inovallée  “, specifies Bertrand Gili, Chairman of Metrologic Group. “  We needed a building that would allow us to pursue our springboard trajectory and that would be able to meet our market challenges but also the new needs of our employees  ,” he continues.

Thus, in the 5,000 m² of building recently delivered, transparency, a key value of the company, is essential everywhere: the offices are glazed on both sides, light is at the heart of each space, many spaces are designed for collaborative work and conviviality in order to meet new face-to-face and remote needs.

Above all, two key new features are emerging:

  • The creation of a showroom that will allow customers to discover all Metrologic Group solutions and to measure their absolute interoperability,
  • And the creation of an R&D, Test & Learn space.
R&D teams will be able to try their hand at it in real conditions within a brand new “game” space in which Metrologic Group has not hesitated to invest massively in special machines and robots, of all brands, to develop new integrations and test their applications.

This dedicated space totaling more than 600 m 2 in total contributes to the deployment of the onboarding and loyalty strategy currently deployed by Metrologic Group to support its HR growth.

From final quality control to smart measurement for Industry 4.0: Metrologic Group on the way to real-time 3D inspection throughout the production chain.

The strength of Metrologic Group’s 3D inspection and metrology software solutions for the industry, aeronautics, health and automotive sectors, among others, has always been its natively universal and interoperable side. “We are able to integrate our solutions on any machine, with any sensor system (laser, contact, multi-sensor vision, multi-technology, etc.), to measure any dimensional characteristic ( size, thickness, angle, alignment, etc.), and we intervene at each industrial stage with a 360° offer”, emphasizes Bertrand Gili.

Metrologic Group has thus developed a software suite capable of covering all stages from engineering to measurement-assisted manufacturing:

  • In design: The Planner X4 suite makes it possible to configure “on demand” each of the characteristics to be measured/controlled to guarantee the quality of the machined parts, while the Silma X4 suite makes it possible to build a virtual twin of the equipment, in a 100% virtual environment.
  • In inspection and dimensional analysis: Metrolog X4 allows in execution to inspect the unit parts and to check the adequacy with the quality parameters defined during the design, to inform in real time on the defects, and to archive the whole database measurements.
  • In production management: the X4-Manager suite which, thanks to the optimized integration of data and measurement results, allows manufacturers to interact with production and engineering so as to adjust manufacturing processes in real time to guarantee a 100% level of quality.

And the stakes are high, both ecologically, with a significant reduction in waste of raw materials and energy, and economically, with millions of euros in ROI at stake for industrial companies. ”  Thanks to our software solutions and our business experience, we are becoming an even more important player in Industry 4.0, the challenge of which is to inspect parts in real time and in continuous flow at each stage of their manufacture, to detect faults as soon as possible and adjust production  ,” underlines Bertrand Gili.

Thus, thanks to its historical know-how in software and electronics, Metrologic Group is able to control a line of real-time 3D measurement robots, with a precise analysis of the differences between the ideal design and the reality produced.

Metrologic Group has also just validated a first continuous 3D control pilot line for one of its customers, a world player in the automotive industry, and intends to continue to establish itself in the years to come as a key player in the smart measurement for industry 4.0!
