SHINING 3D Partners with Leading AM Education Suppliers for the First WorldSkills UK AM Competition

2023 The Additive Manufacturing (AM) industry is very dynamic.

Estimations predict the sector will reach 76B USD by 2030. Yet, industry experts deplore a drastic shortage in skilled labour. The industry, thus, offers promising career opportunities for young people.

Aware of this situation, WorldSkills UK teamed up with the CREATE Education Project to develop an AM focused competition, forging the competencies of the next generation. On a mission to make high-quality, efficient digital manufacturing technologies more widely available, SHINING 3D is proud to sponsor this endeavor.

WorldSkills UK – Excellence at work

WorldSkills promotes international best practice and raises standards in apprenticeships and technical education. The independent charity does this by offering students and apprentices the opportunity to participate in competitions based on training and assessments. Teams compete regionally, nationally, and internationally to achieve world-class standards in their chosen skill.

Under the motto “excellence at work” Worldskills UK integrates 3 core pillars as main focus of their activities:

  • Inspiration – motivate young people to opt for high-quality apprenticeships and technical education as their career.
  • Development – support educators by sharing international best practice in order to deliver high-quality training and assessment.
  • Innovation – help employers to benchmark with international systems to inform policy and practice, ensuring high-quality skills and boosting the UK economy.

Trusted partners on board

SHINING 3D, alongside Ultimaker, is partnering with the The CREATE Education Project and 3DGBIRE who recently launched the new Additive Manufacturing competition category . The category is aimed at post-16 students in education and training throughout the UK. This competition will test young people’s 3D design, 3D printing, and 3D scanning skills.

The competition

The WorldSkills UK Additive Manufacturing competition will see post-16 learners use specialist, industry-standard software and hardware to design, reverse engineer, develop, and create products. They will have access to tools such as Autodesk Fusion 360, FDM 3D printing technology, and 3D scanning. This will allow them to develop solutions to complex engineering problems by rethinking how products are designed and manufactured.

Investing in tomorrow’s top talent

SHINING 3D has been a pioneer in developing high-quality digital manufacturing solutions for almost 20 years. SHINING 3D believes that such solutions should be in every engineer, student, and designer’s toolkit. Thus, the company always strives to make cutting-edge technology available in the most accessible form – be it in terms of budget or learning curve.

That’s why, in hand with some of the industry’s major players, SHINING 3D is thrilled to sponsor yet another WorldSkills competition. Having already sponsored several Skills competitions in China, Russia, Austria, and France, investing in professional development and education is now anchored in SHINING 3D’s DNA. The company is eager to continue supporting younger generations in getting acquainted with tomorrow’s technologies and reimagining design and fabrication.
