SICK AG in Waldkirch delivers free Asset Administration Shells (AAS) to clients and partners that contain standardized data from more than 40,000 SICK sensors. At the Hanover Fair, the corporation will make this announcement. By doing this, SICK expresses its desire to make a substantial contribution to the development of industrial digitalization.
SICK AG, a provider of sensor solutions, has long been a component of digital ecosystems and understood the value of open access to sensor data at an early stage. By doing this, SICK is assisting key elements of industrial digital value-adding chains. This comprises data spaces provided by the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA), among other things. In light of this, SICK has decided to support Manufacturing-X, a project of the Industry 4.0 platform supervised by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. Manufacturing-X aims to connect international cross-company actors into integrated value-adding chains and facilitate a standard, international data exchange. An essential foundation for this is the Asset Administration Shell with so-called sub-models. It permits the development of a digital twin and Industry 4.0-style applications while also presenting pertinent information about the product in a virtual environment. The reduced time and effort required for the provision, design, maintenance, and documentation of sensors in their industrial applications benefit the users.
SICK AG has announced that it would make more than 40,000 AASs that adhere to the Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) standard available in time for the Hanover Fair 2023, the focal point for business experts. This makes it possible for clients and partners to integrate and utilize crucial data from more than 40,000 SICK sensors in a consistent and effective way. The sensor maker already backs the “Digital Nameplate” sub-model and is working on other models to digitally represent the sensor throughout the whole product lifecycle and spur industry digitization.
All of our digital solutions are designed to provide value to our customers’ respective ecosystems. The Executive Board Member in charge of Technology and Digitization, Dr. Niels Syassen, explains that’s why they rely on open standards and working with business partners. “The Manufacturing-X initiative as well as alliances driven by the industrial base, such as the Industrial Digital Twin Association, are making an important contribution in this area,” Syassen affirms.
Asset Administration Shells in the SICK AssetHub
All Asset Administration Shells will be available for download through the SICK AssetHub at the start of this new development. An interactive picture of both individual sensors and machines as well as entire plants is produced by the web-based, digital Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system known as The AssetHub. Future releases of the Asset Administration Shells will also be made available through the SICK.com website.
