Optics-themed tour, ZEISS stand, and presentations at the Market of Digital Opportunities
At the Digital Summit held by the Federal Government in Jena, Germany on 20 and 21 November 2023, around 1,000 representatives from politics, business, science, and society exchanged views on the latest developments in digitalization. Digital Transformation at a decisive moment (Zeitenwende) is central to this year’s digital summit.
For the first time, the city of Jena is offering a free support program open to the public to accompany the main summit program. More than 50 companies, scientific institutions, and initiatives will be presenting the digital solutions of the future at the Market of Digital Opportunities from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on 20 and 21 November 2023. ZEISS already has a presence here.
During the themed tour “No digitalization without optics”, interested parties can visit SCHOTT, ZEISS and Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF. The ZEISS station takes you to the construction site of the new ZEISS high-tech site in Jena, the largest investment commitment in Thuringia so far this decade. Over the next few years, a smart, networked building will be created there that will interact, learn, and adapt with its users: this includes modern building control, logistics, factory, workplace, and mobility concepts. Sensors and energy monitoring, intelligent elevators, and artificial intelligence are used here. The station draws attention to ZEISS smart digital technologies with a positive impact on sustainability.
ZEISS will also be presenting a robotic visualization system for the operating room that facilitates precise positioning through robotics controlled by surgeons for example. Participants on the themed tour can also take a look at the microscope system for the sensitive 3D imaging of living cells, which was awarded the German Future Prize in 2022. The augmented reality optics from Tooz, a ZEISS venture, will be made available to the manufacturers of data glasses. With the smart lens, virtual information can be displayed directly in the wearer’s field of view, while the original job of everyday glasses i.e. correcting the visual defect is retained.
The heartbeat of digitalization and cyber security
At the ZEISS stand on the Ernst Abbe Campus, the company will be demonstrating the technologies it is using to drive digitalization and thus enable technological progress. ZEISS presents the world’s leading lithography optics used in the manufacture of microchips in the semiconductor industry. Ever smaller, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips are speeding up the pace of digitalization. At the stand, interested visitors can find out more about the heartbeat of digitalization at ZEISS, take a look at an EUV mirror, and immerse themselves in virtual worlds. In addition, a live demo at the stand will show the extent to which machine learning is incorporated into production at ZEISS.
Nadine Cunäus, Head of Human Resources at Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH, will be on the panel to discuss “Inspiration, skills and dream jobs: what’s wrong with career guidance and how can we change this?”. It will take place at 2 p.m. on 20 November 2023 at the Ernst Abbe Campus in lecture hall 5. Oliver Ortlieb, Head of Information Security at Carl Zeiss AG, will be giving a talk on a powerful cyber security organization as a key factor for resilient digital transformation on 20 November 2023 from 6 p.m. at the Ernst Abbe Campus in lecture hall 1 and will show how an innovative company can position itself to protect information and, at the same time, help shape a resilient digital transformation.
