Should You Retrofit, Upgrade, Or Replace? Calculate Your Outgoings/Cost

Everybody has heard it: the argument designed to persuade us to upgrade our cell phone because the most recent model has a superior camera, a longer battery life, or a faster chip. Regularly, consumer products are normally phased out to make place for their new and superior alternatives. Job shops and manufacturers also have to combine the procurement of new capital equipment, such as coordinate measurement devices, with the maintenance of ageing machinery (CMM).

Along with an increase in upgrades and retrofits, AIMS also noticed first-quarter activity for new CMM sales. A 5-axis inspection of parts that are in-process and after processing is offered by its Revolution HB or LM Series. In 2020, the OEM unveiled the Summit 10.10.10 5-axis multisensory system for big components inspection.

The Revolution Series CMMs from AIMS and the Sheffield line both use comparable technology. The Sheffield Endeavor CMM, for instance, employed lab-grade linear motor technology similar to that of AIMS. The Sheffield Apollo’s longevity comes from the centre drive system used in its engineering. One of the most durable products available is the Apollo. These CMMs can function just as effectively now as they did when they were first put into production with the proper assistance and improvements.

Automation and non-contact inspection are appealing due to the continued increase in demand for complicated parts, 3D shapes, and cosmetic surfaces. The CMMs from AIMS can operate automatically in the dark. Its 5-axis mobile HB can be moved anywhere during the production process to gather data instantly. CMM automation can also cut down on scrap. A CMM like the Summit can provide data to a machine tool that is, for instance, cutting chips. A portion hole or other features may enlarge with use as the tool ages. Any CMM from the Revolution series can be used to measure, track, and gather data about the machine tool, which can then be used to determine when it needs to be removed and serviced. A work shop has the freedom to invest in the best machine without sacrificing quality, whether they choose a new one, a refit, or an upgrade.
